2000-01 NDMTA combined again with the Decatur Chapter for two meetings. Both programs, Natalia da Roza’s “Stylistic Playing of Bach,” and Jeannine Morrison’s “Winging it Alone,” were inspirational and informative. Our own Vicki Key also gave a wonderful program on her European Music Tour, as did Portia Hawkins with her presentation of “African-American Music.” Besides the auditions and Festival, NDMTA held the second Bach Competition, a very successful event for piano, strings, organ and voice, with nearly 200 students participating. The next Bach Competition was scheduled for October 26, 2002, to be held at the Roswell United Methodist Church. Complete information was available that fall.

2001-02 NDMTA had a unique and successful year. We held joint monthly meetings with the Atlanta Music Teachers Association. Our September meeting featured Eugene Martin, who spoke on the “Alexander Technique for Hands.” In October, our program “A Posy of Musical Moments,” was performed by our own Bette Chambless, soprano, and her accompanist, Ralph Russell. The November meeting featured the Rachel Howard Scholarship Audition winners, who displayed their acting talents as well as musical skills in the form of skits about famous composers. Lois Finlay discussed “Teaching the Guide Book” at our January meeting. In February we had our Local Association Piano Auditions and Theory Tests, and our Student Ensemble Olympic Festival. Our regular monthly meetings featured a round-table discussion on the topic of “Teacher Burnout.” Our March meeting, Asian Music Presentation, was a first for us and very successful and enjoyable. In April, we looked forward to a representative from Musikgarten discussing “Group Teaching of Beginners.” New officers were installed in May at our annual spring luncheon.

2002-03 Our September meeting featured pianists Keith and Priscilla Jefcoat in a lecture recital entitled “Intermediate Piano Duets.” Our October meeting, held jointly with Atlanta Music Teachers Association, featured Douglass Weeks, who gave a lecture recital on Debussy Preludes, Book II. Our chapter hosted the Bach Competition on October 26 at Roswell United Methodist Church. Our Co-Chairpersons were LaNelle Nash and Ann Steele. Dr. Tom Pearsall of Georgia Southern University gave a master class for students of our members. Our January meeting, “Express Meeting,” was a time to discuss upcoming NDMTA auditions and Festival along with o ther auditions that many of our association teachers participate in. February’s meeting, “Summer Show and Tell,” featured teachers and students who spoke about summer music camps. Our Student Festival was held on February 8 at Georgia Perimeter College, Clarkston. Our Co-Chairpersons were Jean Champness and Margaret Liu. In March, our guest speaker was David Nash, who spoke on Studio Recording. Our GMTA Local Association Auditions for piano, held on March 1 at Briarcliff Baptist Church, was chaired by Gayle Vann and assisted by Lois Finlay. Our April meeting featured several of our own members in our “We Do It!” program. Our final meeting was our Spring Luncheon and New Officers Installation, which was held at Pappadeux Restaurant in Norcross.
